Nice video. Can't help wondering, why the pilots behind don't take into account prop wash from the barge in front. Edit: Air craft pilots know this as "get thereitus" Often leads to other issues. Sometimes rather expensive ones for aircraft and passengers.

How often do these boats have to pass through a dam? Is it constantly, or once or twice a year?

I bet the drivers of the old wooden boats dream of owning a big powerful metal one, one day. I think their boats mean the world to them. I feel so sorry for them when they fail to pass through the gates.

Is it correct that later in the day the water currant through the dam is not so strong so Barges that can’t get through earlier can do it latter in the day?

I cant watch this. At the point when the stuck barge is stuck and the helper is coming up behind. The front barge need to apply full power and keep full power at all times, do not drop power. The barge coming up from behind needs to be careful of course as to not hit the front barge to hard but not to gentle as well. Timing is very important. But the helper barge can apply full power a few feet way from the front barge. It's own weight being fully loaded will dampen acceleration meaning the thrust from the engine will be put into the boat and the load and apply slow inertia. Lower the risk of damage. The front barge buttoned off at times. Why? That makes the issue worse. And keep that rudder straight, deflection robs forward thrust. Edit: But then the second helper. A Tug boat. Lets just bring more muscle. A bigger engine.

Great video. On this video that you loaded on June 20 the boat got stuck in the gate. A barge came up and pushed him out of the gate. At that time there was a man standing beside you using the tool on something looks like may be a giant ratchet. What was he doing? Is he adjusting jumping in the gate or just getting his exercise? Just curious to how those gates work thanks for the videos

Maybe show us how you walk to the location on the dam gate
